Wire Wrap Artistry

Wire wrapping jewelries have been in existence for more than 1000 years, at the time of the Phoenician Empire.
Inspired by this timeless elegance, wire wrapping is another technique used by Kakalina's to showcase variety in her collection. Each piece is passionately hand crafted, hammered (for texture), filed, & linked with various beads, pendants, jewels, findings, etc. by the artisan.
Wires can be customized (non-tarnished, sterling silver, gold-filled, etc.) based on clients' preference. The price is dependent on intricacy of work or materials.
This image is a sample of the recent work added to Kakalina's. Lampwork, wooden, silver, and ceramic beads were used and linked with gauge 20 non-tarnish silver wire. The pendant is chunky at 3 inches wide and 5 inches long. An absoute stunner. Altogether this neckpiece is 22 inches end-to-end. For more products, please visit www.kakalinasaccesories.artfire.com

Talk about versatility
I like to buy items that I can use in a lot of ways. Frugal, yes. Versatile, double yes! I scrimp without sacrificing fashion.
VERSATILITY is the inspiration for Kakalina's new line of neckpieces. Each item can be worn as necklace, belt, bracelet, or even dress up your wine/bottle. The strap is long and adjustable. You just need to squeeze that creative juice out of you.
THINK GREEN. Most of the items are reconstructed from Kakalina's collection of local finds. I call that environmentally-fashionable. An example is this neckpiece adorned with pendant, jade and beads. The black strap came from a blouse and the gold- finished pendant from vintage earrings. Kakalina's website is always being updated with new products so make sure to check it often. Mahalo.

Black Rose

I love the simpicity and elegance of black. I call it my instant wardrobe fix. In days that I don't really know what to wear, I just throw in my old reliable black shirt dress. Add accessories here and there, voila! A new, reinvigorated me.
Black is the inspiration for my latest line of floral brooches. They are made from vintage cloth scraps, modern lace, buttons, etc. The rose brooch on the left side is done using various ways. The main (bigger) petal is made of black lace that covers a silver cloth scrap. The smaller petal is made of twisted cloth in silver and black stripes. The pollen is a vintage crystal button. The floral brooch on the right side is another thing. The bigger petal came from a black sequined headband, and the little glittery petals from a shoelace which I twisted and rolled then sew together. The pollen came from a vintage button. It took me me 30 mins. to finish one brooch, equivalent to one coffee break for me!
This Black Rose Brooch can be worn in any ways. Think Michelle Obama and her stylish brooch! Use it to accentuate your belt, bag, purse. Ideas are limitless.
Reuse, Reaccesorize.
I am a green advocate. Part of my contribution is to recycle as much as I can in more ways than one. Even with accessories. Let's just say I have the "eye" to pick other's "don't wants to-my wants". I have reused and reconstructed hand me down vintage accessories, garage finds & store clearance. I mix and match them with my own supplies to give them a modern and unique vibe. A sample of this is the image you see here. This bag charm is made from various finds. The striped wood is originally from a necklace, the sunburst from a vintage earring, antique-finished copper coin from clearance sale, wooden beads from bracelet, all mixed with modern beads & silver chain. For more samples of my work, please visit my website (click the link in this page title).
So what's your Reuse/Recycle story?
I Heart KUKUI nut!
Kukui nuts are used as leis to welcome visitors in Hawaii. In ancient times, they are worn by royalty, and is believed to offer protection and enlightenment. Kukui nuts come from the Candlenut tree, which is native to all Hawaiian islands. It has many uses then- food, laxative, hair treatment. Now, you often see them in luau parties and souvenir shops.
I have taken the legendary kukui nut to the next level. Part of my Kakalina's creation is to showcase its beauty and versatility. Wear them as earrings, bracelets, or charms. Of course I added my personal touch to suit your every mood and give it a modern twist. Now that's real love for KUKUI!
Accesorize for Life!
I always love accessories. To me a wardrobe is not complete without them. They define my mood. When I don't feel like dressing up, I compensate it with what else- accessories!
I started making my own collection for as long as I can remember. They come in all shapes and sizes. It has and will always be my surefire stress buster. When I was still a corporate slave, I find comfort with my BFFs- earrings, neckpieces, bracelets, charms. Some friends come and go, but my BFFs stayed with me through the years. One time, I made earrings as Christmas gifts and my friends thought they were store-bought! Such a compliment. I have probably made more than a hundred sets of earrings just for myself. Then one day, in my usual reflective thinking, I decided to pursue my passion and make it my own business. No boss, no unruly officemates. Just me. It's no easy feat making these treasures. My hands are now rough, my a** burns, my neck hurts. I guess this is self-mutilation. But I enjoy making my accessories. So I guess this is for LIFE!
